Are Some People Parking Over The Drive?

5 December 2010 | Comments Off | ranks

pretty much everyone out there knows the situation here, there is someone that keeps parking over your drive and you cannot get them to stop. there are some really good ways to sort this out and some really bad ways that are illegal, here are some of the methods!

Awful practices

Knowing the worst practice out there is the thing that you should know first and there have been cases where people approach the cars and break things off like the wipers or take some of the car accessories from inside the car. Doing this is against the law as you are causing damage to someone’s property or stealing from them. Other people have pushed the cars into the road so that they are in the way of the road just to move them from the drive!. Although this does sound like it would be a bit amusing you can get thrown in jail for it as it is a very serious danger to other people.

Doing It In The Right Way

Whether it is a ford fiesta or a BMW 1 series car the way to go about fixing something like this is to be polite. If you put a note on their car just stating you want a word with them when they are done then do this, if they don’t come in and drive off then contact the respected authorities if it keeps happening. If you can catch them doing it make sure you do not raise your voice to them or anything like this. Talk to them like they are people and you will be fine, most of the time they will be very apologetic and will accept they are in the wrong.

making the right decision is very important when it comes to this!

Get Better Mileage And Performance By Managing Your Car’s Weight

4 November 2010 | Comments Off | ranks

Airlines succeed and fail according to how much they spend on operations, and a large part of this would be the airline’s fuel costs. Airlines have special departments who manage the airplanes’ weight, reducing it if necessary and keeping close track of its weight and capacity.

Those concerned about their car’s performance can follow the example of the airline industry. A lighter, leaner automobile can go faster than one that’s fully loaded, not to mention with better mileage. What other modification to your car can affect braking, cornering, acceleration and gas mileage, reduces wear on your engine, suspension and brakes, and doesn’t void your warranty? Can’t think of much!

Here are a few ways to reduce your car’s weight you may want to consider.

Remove all the broken parts you don’t plan on fixing. For example, if you have a broken power antenna motor or an old cassette stereo unit you never use, take them out.

Clean out your trunk. Be diligent in clearing your trunk of items you don’t need – this is a great way to save fuel. The trunk is not a place to store items, mind you. It’s not. A lot of things can be placed in the trunk when they shouldn’t, like old magazines or phone books, lawn chairs, or even pet food. They all belong in the garage or basement.

You don’t need steel wheels to look cool, so ditch them if you should. Instead you can use aluminum wheels that’ll do the trick just fine. Those are for show, not for speed, usually. Also do some shopping around for lighter tires. Check the weight of your car’s tires and compare it with the competition. You might be surprised at the difference in weight.

Instead of using steel fiber panels, go carbon. They may be a little pricey, but are certainly a cost-effective replacement over time. Depending on your local vehicle code, you may also be able to replace your steel hood and trunk lid with carbon fiber ones. Major savings here.

Replace power seats with racing seats. Power seats weigh up to 75 pounds, and that’s quite a load. Replacing them with lightweight fixed-back racing bucket seats that weigh ten pounds or less each will shave 150 pounds off your car.

A mix of Old World charm and modern life continues to be a hallmark of Saint Louis. Explore St Louis at our premiere city guide. Whether you’re looking for shopping, services or the latest St Louis MO events, you’ll find it here.

Save Money With Contract Hire Cars

21 October 2010 | Comments Off | ranks

Contract hire cars are becoming a more and more popular way of getting a car that you like without having to spend a lot of money initially. Many people are able to get a much better car than they had previously thought by going the contract hire route. There are some very good cars that you can get on a lease deal such as the Audi Q7, Volvo V7 & Porsche Cayenne.

As already one of the major benefits of leasing a car is that you are able to afford a much more expensive car than you normal would. Every 3 years or so you will be able to get rid of the car you have and get a brand new version or even a different car. If you are the type of person who wants to always have a new car then this is the option for you. The best bit is that you don’t have an old car that you need to get rid of yourself either.

Most cars loose about 80 to 90 percent of their value from the time they are bought till the time they are sold and this is one reason why contract hire continues to rise in popularity. It can be annoying to find that you are unable to sell your car when it comes time to get a new vehicle.

When going for a contract hire car you should consider some of the following. Most consumers should go for an open ended agreement. With this type of contract you do not have to pay any extra charges. The only additional money you could end up paying is if you go over your agreed mileage limit. This will occur if you travel more miles in a year than are specified in your contract. On the whole 10,000 to 15,000 miles will be the limit on a yearly basis.

Looking on the internet is an easy way to see which cars are available and maybe pick up a deal.

BMW Cars Forms Partnership With The Olympics

19 October 2010 | Comments Off | ranks

BMW have recently been put into the limelight as they will be partnered with the Olympics in 2012 as they are set to supply cars.

In fact BMW are going to be sending over 4,000 BMW Cars over to the Olympic and it would seem that the deciding factor on BMW is because they are really trying hard to cut down on all those CO2 emissions. However surely sending 4,000 cars over to the UK to use for just two weeks to only have to send them back again is actually going to use up a lot of fuel.

Surely there are better ways to get these people where they need to be?

Runners

Will it’s in the title really, get off your arses and run to the stadium. No need for us to spend money on training facilities if you ran to work. These people are supposed to be fit right?

Rowers

This one is not a difficult one at all, put the boat into the Thames and row to the stadium. You do it everyday of your lives one extra tiny bit isn’t exactly going to hurt!

Cyclists

Is it really that difficult to get on your bike for 10 minutes and ride to the stadium. How hard is it, thousands of people do it everyday.

As for the other athletes, walk in, you are fit enough to do it are you not? It is ridiculous as we are going to be using more C02 omissions by putting the athletes in these cars. These people are hardly famous, why are they getting so much!

So the next time you are after a used cars you could wait for the 4,000 that are going to be left at the end of the games. You never know you could be lucky and spot a nice car from the BMW 1 series.

Top Tips For Track Days

19 October 2010 | Comments Off | ranks

Taking your car to a nearby race track and thrashing it about a bit without risking the lives of other road users is becoming very popular. A leading experience-day operator has recently stated that more than 25% of the population have bought a track day for friends or family, and around 30% of people have been on one themselves. They are additionally seeing more people booking for corportate entertainment. Because they are a relatively new trend however, there is still a lack of understanding about how they work. Here are 5 of the top things you need to know.

Insurance. Most tracks have their own insurance that automatically covers you whilst you are using their facility. With this in mind you shouldnt have to arrange any for yourself, although it is worth checking before hand to make sure.

Driver. Depending on what type of track day you go on, you may be driving yourself or you may have someone else doing the pleasure. If someone else drives you around first it is very good idea to pay attention to what they do and say as their knowledge will be invaluable when your turn comes.

Licence. As race tracks are on private land and have their own insurance, it is not strictly necessary for you to have a licence. However, most race tracks do require you to have a licence as it implies you have a certain ability level.

Tires. Unless you are on a team building day and are not paying for any wear and tear, you might want to take care of your tyres. They can cost you a small fortune if you buy new, and whilst they might last years driving normally, just half an hour fast driving on a track can wear them right out.

Caution. Although race tracks are statistically safer places to be than public roads, this does not mean you can drive like Evil Knievel. Track days are a great deal more dangerous than Henley Regatta for example, so make sure youve woken up before you get in the car.

Porsche GT2 RS

17 October 2010 | Comments Off | ranks

What is this sports car? A $260,000 Porsche 911, using 516lb ft and 611bhp. The Porsche GT2 RS the quickest 911 ever to leave the manufacturing facility. Its only goal seems to be getting every Porsche tuner out of business. How about the technical specifications? The engine is identical to the 997 GT2 (which is no longer built), but runs distinct turbo chargers, new intercoolers, brand new cylinders and also a new engine management system to operate 1.6 bar of boost, over the last vehicles 1.4 bar. Stated performance is of the what-the-hell variety with 0-62mph in 3.5sec, 0-100mph in 6.8 seconds and a Ring lap of 7 minutes 18 seconds.

The chassis is generally a bit up-rated Gt3 RS, and that is a pretty strong foundation. You will find a number of modifications to fit this turbo application and also for even better reaction the rear axle has much more solid linkages than the Porsche GT3 RS. Aerodynamically, it is quite similar to the 997 GT2, but runs a brand new splitter, brand new rear diffuser and an extra gurney on the back wing. Does not sound like much, but it practically has as much downforce as the Porsche GT3 RS.

What is it like to drive this Porsche GT2? Comedy quick. We jumped out of a brand new Porsche Cayman S into this thing and, at very first, asked ourselves just what the fuss ws really all about. Being turbocharged, it doesn’t make much noise and it’s so easy to drive at reduced speed, rides so well, that you treat it just like any standard 911. The fixed buckets are similar to the Porsche GT3 RS’s, the dash is plain 911, there is far less induction sound than you get in the normally aspirated automobiles. It is actually all a little disappointing until you open up the tap in 3rd and the vehicle drags the horizon onto your fore head.

There’s no PDK option, only a robust, short throw manual transmission. The clock would have anyone imagine that a Porsche Turbo S is faster to 62 and also as fast to 100mph, however, as ever, the time clock lies. This car is different-world quick to the Porsche Turbo S. And obviously it’s a real challenge for the driver. No other turbo-charged Porsche 911 comes near to offering the chassis stability that this automobile does.

You turn, it really grips, the engine lunges, the axle grips more, then the outrageous traction takes over on the exit of turns. Also, the steering is spectacular. Drive it quick, use its possibilities for a handful of minutes and you have to back away before the figures get silly. The traction force and stability management calibration is a masterstroke: you can employ a lot of the performance, so much of the time. It is freakishly comfortable too. From time to time a small speed bump elicits a creak from these rear rose joints, otherwise it rides no more harshly than a Carrera on sports suspension.

How does it compare? It is faster, a lot more useable and far less expensive than a Ferrari 599 GTO. However then it doesn’t feel as exclusive, isn’t lathered in as much carbon and is nearly mute in contrast to the very musical Fandango. Neither the Lamborghini LP670 SV or Bentley Continental GT are as fast or as able. But once more they really both trounce the Porsche GT2 RS for pure drama.

Classic Car Safety

31 May 2010 | Comments Off | ranks

Safety is not always a main concern with owners of classic cars, but this should not be overlooked. Many classic car owners want to keep their old car original as can be, which means if they were built before 1968 they likely do not have seat belts. For most classic cars built before 1950 it is usually not that difficult to add seat belts. Continue Reading

Why Does Fuel Cost So Much?

21 May 2010 | Comments Off | ranks

It would seem that over the past few months we have seen major increases in the prices of fuel here in the UK and I know this to be true across the entire world too but why is this, is there really any major needs to actually put the fuel up so high or are companies simply looking to be greedy.

Most people know that oil is of course running out which means that the prices are going to increase but to this extent I do not think is fair, companies should spend more time in looking at other means to make fuel. People are really beginning to panic when it comes to getting a hold of fuel which is a big problem and the companies are playing off this by putting the prices up more and more. Continue Reading

A Ban For Smokers In Cars?

9 May 2010 | Comments Off | ranks

Smoking in the car is certainly a shady subject and many people think that it should be banned and in fact there is a law that may fall into place soon?

Well this law could be changing because over 2 million children live with smokers in the UK which means most of these children will be travelling with their parents in the car. Although they cannot stop people from smoking in their own homes the car is a more confined space and smoking with children or even adults in the car could cause them serious health problems. I Would Love To Sit In One Of These

23 April 2010 | Comments Off | ranks

Sure we can go out and drive car leasing cars but what if we could drive or even ride in one of these vehicles, wouldn’t it be the experience of a lifetime?

The DeLorean DMC-12

Although it is possible that you can drive one of these vehicles still today, there is no way you are going to be able to travel in time like Doc brown. This is the main reason that this car is one of the most sought after cars ever. Continue Reading
